6 months old and a tooth!

Emily turned 6 months old last week and to celebrate she has been working on her first tooth!! I think it finally popped through on Sunday or Monday and she really let us know about it. No waking in the night thank goodness but she was not a happy bunny. Now it is fully through she is happier and she seems a little obsessed with it - rubbing it with her finger and feeling it with her tongue!! And I'm pretty sure it's making eating just a little easier. Emily had her 6 month check up with the doctor on Thursday - she now weighs 18lbs 4oz and I think she was 26.5 inches long. Anyway, she remains up in the top percentiles for weight and height. She got a few more shots but managed them just fine - no more now until she is 1 (except the flu shot of course). She is moving well - she continues to move around by arching her back and moving backwards along the floor. No rolling for this little lady!

Oliver is doing great too. I realised while putting pictures on here that I don't have many of him. That's because he doesn't stand still long enough for me to get a good photo!! He is doing great at counting and doing puzzles - I've just been watching him put lots of puzzles together with no help at all from me. How things change in just a few short months!! And the biking is coming on too - he is now learning how to use the brakes so he doesn't scare me quite so much when going fast down a hill :) I have been explaining to him about the leaves changing colour and falling off the trees. When we talk about it he says: "Get cold now. Wear nice hat and gloves". Yes, he is fully aware of what weather is coming next!

So, Halloween coming up. Oliver is scared of pretty much everything Halloween related so we'll see how that one goes. Maybe telling him that getting sweets when you knock on doors will persuade him to wear a costume!!

Looks yummy!!

Beautiful, beautiful girl :)

Yes, these two pictures of Oliver are examples of the great photos I get of him these days! Better than nothing though :)

Baby oranges - yummy!!

I give Emily some water in an open cup every day. She drank a bit yesterday with my help but otherwise she just likes to wave the cup around and make a mess :)

Oliver loves to sing "California Girls" by Katy Perry - except he says "California Giraffes" instead (a little joke Mummy made up!!). This isn't the best video - he can sing it much better!!

I lost track of time!!

Oops, sorry!! I just realised it's been over 10 days since I updated this. Where does the time go?!

So, what's been happening? Well, Emily has started swimming lessons! She has been twice now and seems to enjoy it, apart from having her face dunked in the water!!! Her lesson happens right when she would take a morning nap so she's normally pretty tired during it, then she'll sleep in the car on the way home, eat some lunch and then take a good nap. The good nap is an unusual occurrence - I should take her swimming every day ;)

Oliver went to the dentist for the first time last week and handled it very well. He was fine with the big chair going up and down but definitely did not want to be laid back so the dentist did what she could with him sitting up. But he was fine with them cleaning his teeth and having a look in his mouth. He doesn't have any cavities and all his baby teeth are there so that's good news.

On Saturday it was Grandpa Ray and Grandma Sandy's wedding. It was a beautiful day and the kids did very well. Oliver had the job of walking in with Grandpa and Blake (Grandpa's other grandson). The day was only saddened by the passing of Ray's mum but we all did what we could to celebrate her life and continue the party.

Tomorrow little Emily will be 6 months old! On Thursday she gets to visit the doctor for the next round of shots and a weigh-in. She continues to do amazingly with the eating and has tried so much different food. On Saturday she plonked her hand right in my plate of salad and started chomping on that!!

Oliver is doing great at school and is loving the "big kid" room. Only that one day of sadness then all was well. And he's started putting on his shoes by himself which is a major achievement :) Now just to get rid of those nappies..........

Oliver in the preschool room

Yesterday Oliver moved to the preschool room in school. He was quite sad when I left him but apparently he perked up quickly and had a great time. The first thing he told me was that he sat on the toilet and did a pee - I'm going to have to verify that story tomorrow as he never does that at home ;) I also took him to the doctor for his three year check last week and he is doing just fine. I think he is 3ft 3ins tall and weighs just over 38lbs. He is on the 95th line for weight and 90th for height. The weight statistic surprised me as he isn't the greatest eater.

Over the weekend we started giving Emily some food. She is pretty good at sitting up now and has been grabbing at my plate recently. She always wants to be sociable at dinner time as well so she is happy to be up in the highchair sitting with us. We are doing Baby Led Weaning with Emily which basically means skipping all the purees and going straight to finger foods. So far she is loving it. She has tried peaches, strawberries, cucumber, red pepper, mushrooms, onion, toast and pasta. Peaches have been her favourite I think but unfortunately she has got a nasty nappy rash which may or may not be caused by them. It could just be the addition of food in general but I am leaving the peaches out for a couple of days to see. She was not a happy bunny yesterday :(

Over the weekend we looked after Mikayla for the day and the kids had a blast together. Running round like crazy things as always. You'll love the video when Mikayla is so intent on holding hands but Oliver really doesn't want to!! He eventually let go and poor Mikayla was distraught :( I think the sound on the puzzle video isn't very good as I managed to cover the speaker up. And Emily just loves Scoop - she is getting a good hand washing from her!!

Oliver has now finished the Baby classes at swimming and starts in Littles next Tuesday evening. And Emily starts going this Saturday morning. I am excited to take her and really hope she enjoys it :)
